Sankey Bridges is the oldest drainage in WA5 and the most interesting. It grew up around the crossing of the Sankey Canal — England's first true canal — and the housing along Liverpool Road and the streets behind it dates from the industrial period, on clay and brick. Some of the runs here predate anything else on this side of Warrington. Add low, wet ground beside the canal and the Mersey and you get the full range: brick-lined sections, interceptor traps at the boundary, shared rear runs behind the terraces, and settlement that has opened joints over a century and a half. It is the one part of WA5 where the drain is genuinely older than the road.

Can a camera survey a brick drain?
Yes, and it is worth doing — brick runs are usually the oldest and least documented part of a property's drainage. The camera shows missing mortar, dropped invert and root ingress through the joints, and the report says whether it is stable, needs lining, or needs replacing with modern pipe.
Is the drain mine or United Utilities'?
Most drains serving a single property — up to the point where they join the public sewer — are your responsibility. The public sewer is United Utilities'. We identify the boundary during the survey so you know exactly where your liability ends.
How long does it take?
The survey itself is usually about an hour for a typical Sankey Bridges semi or terrace. Allow 90 minutes for larger properties or multiple access points.
Do you dig anything up?
No. The camera goes in through an existing cover, gully or, if needed, the toilet. Nothing is dug up, lifted or broken out. There is no mess.
