Great Sankey's drains have been in the ground longer than most of its residents.

Callands is early-1980s New Town housing north of the A57, tightly planned around Callands Road with small plots and short garden runs. Short runs sound like good news, and mostly they are — there is less pipe to go wrong. The catch is that everything is close to the house and close to the boundary, so when a defect does appear it is usually somewhere expensive: under a conservatory, under a garage extension, or right at the connection to the shared run. Callands has had a lot of extensions and conservatories added over four decades, and a drain that ran happily under a lawn in 1984 is a different proposition under a slab.

Can I find out where the drain runs before I build an extension?
That is one of the best reasons to survey. We trace the run and mark its line on the surface, so the plans can avoid it or Building Control can approve a proper diversion. Finding it afterwards, when the foundations are already on it, is the version that costs money.
Is the drain mine or United Utilities'?
In most cases the drains serving your property alone are your responsibility, up to the point where they meet the public sewer maintained by United Utilities. We locate that boundary as part of the survey so you understand precisely where your liability starts and ends.
How long does it take?
The survey itself is usually about an hour for a typical Callands semi or terrace. Allow 90 minutes for larger properties or multiple access points.
Do you dig anything up?
Not a thing. The camera is fed through an existing cover, gully or, if needed, the toilet pan. Nothing is dug, lifted or disturbed. You are left with no mess whatsoever.
