Lingley Green and Lingley Mere sit at the western edge of Warrington, largely 1990s and 2000s housing on what was open land and, in places, the fringes of the old base. Modern plastic throughout, generous falls, and drainage designed under regulations that finally took surface water seriously — much of it goes to attenuation and soakaway rather than straight to the combined sewer. That is better engineering, but it introduces a fault the older parts of Warrington never had: silted attenuation and blocked soakaways that back up gradually over fifteen or twenty years. Homeowners here often have surface water drainage they did not know they were responsible for.

My house drains rainwater to a soakaway — is that my responsibility?
Almost always yes. Surface water systems within your boundary are private, and unlike the foul drain they were never transferred to United Utilities. A soakaway silts up over time and gives very little warning before it stops coping. The survey shows the condition of the run and where it discharges.
Is the drain mine or United Utilities'?
Most drains serving a single property — up to the point where they join the public sewer — are your responsibility. The public sewer is United Utilities'. We identify the boundary during the survey so you know exactly where your liability ends.
How long does it take?
The survey itself is usually about an hour for a typical Lingley Green semi or terrace. Allow 90 minutes for larger properties or multiple access points.
Do you dig anything up?
No. The camera goes in through an existing cover, gully or, if needed, the toilet. Nothing is dug up, lifted or broken out. There is no mess.

I'm buying a house — is it worth it?
